Patterns of Beauty Stephen Cross, 1998 25 min. |
A visual delight, this documentary concentrates on Islamic art and architecture with emphasis on elements of abstract geometrical design, stylized floral arabesques, and calligraphy, placing them in the context of art as praising God and artistic creation as an act of piety. The images in this film are luscious, ending with a special focus on the art of three great cultures which flourished three centuries ago: Saffavid, Iran; Ottoman, Turkey; and Mughal, India. |
