"Egypt's dilemma is mirrored in this tale of the fool who wisely serves the cause of justice and son consumed by greed." - Kathryn V. Johnson, University of North Carolina at Charlotte

THE PUPPETEER is made in the tradition of the best of Egyptian melodramas; it involves a moral fight between good and evil intertwined with song and dance.

Omar Sharif stars as an aging puppet-player, a self-declared artist with a message against social injustice. The film poignantly captures his heroic struggles to fund his son Bahloul's education and the latter's corruption in the big city. THE PUPPETEER has also been recognized for its colorful direction and cinematography.
