Control of water is the ultimate weapon in the Middle East, and it is an issue which will continue to threaten stability in the area well into the next century.

This British documentary, part of the Dispatches series, explores the effect of the recently completed Ataturk Dam in Turkey on the water supply of the region. With the damming of the Tigris and Euphrates, which provide water for nearly all of Iraq and much of Syria, Turkey now has the power to stop the flow of both rivers. Water is being diverted to vast irrigation projects in Turkey, depriving, in the process, Iraq and Syria of their water supply. If present trends continue, the region could face a human and environmental catastrophe in the future.
