Rudolph Valentino, the legendary lover of the silent screen, stars in two of his most famous films. Valentino's sex appeal reportedly had women fainting in the aisles during The Sheik (George Melford, USA, 1921, 80 mins.), with the famous scene of Valentino's Arab chieftain carrying his lady love into the desert. The sequel, Son of the Sheik (George Fitzmaurice, USA, 1926, 72 mins.), revived the star's fading popularity and many consider it his best film. Another rousing desert adventure, it benefits greatly from a sense of humor without sacrificing its romantic appeal. Sadly, Valentino died just as the film was released. The hysteria surrounding his funeral is seen in a Pathe newsreel also included on this volume. Silent with music score.
